Today, Interior design and DIY are complex and perplexing fields. Knowing which type of wood flooring is appropriate for your house or project—or even whether you should be contemplating a non-wood option—can be challenging given the wide range of wood and other flooring alternatives available.
The three most popular options available to our clients are solid wood, engineered wood, and laminate flooring. Below, we go over each in turn, along with advantages and disadvantages:
Engineered Wood Flooring:
Natural hardwoods are used to make a multi-layered plywood "core" that provides a very strong foundation for the construction of high-quality engineered oak floors. This has a layer of actual hardwood (oak or walnut) on top, giving it the look and feel of a solid wood floor while yet having the advantages of a sturdy plywood basis.
Engineered hardwood is cheaper. Engineered flooring is more resistant to moisture and UV rays. Although it might not stay as long, it will look nicer.
Long-lasting hardwood flooring is available. It can live anywhere from 30 to 100 years. Throughout its lifetime, you'll need to refinish it two or three times. There are also a lot of choices, including oak, maple, and others. If you don't mind swiftly mopping up spills, hardwood floors are very simple to maintain. All they require is a minimum weekly sweep and mop. For each of these reasons, hardwood floors are more expensive than engineered flooring. Hardwood flooring aren't flawless, though.
Laminate Flooring:
Laminate flooring resembles hardwood flooring; it is like a photographic sheet of Natural hardwood. Typically, the planks are created from a byproduct of the wood. Laminate planks comprise of layers of fiberwood. It has four layers: backing, base, print and wear layer. The wear layer helps to protects the plank over the time. The print layer is what gives the product its wood-like appearance. Laminate flooring are the most affordable flooring options. Laminate planks lesser prone to dents because they are made up of high-density fiber. Laminate planks are also stained resistance.
